Cleaning Ganga-Mission


Describing the task of cleaning Ganga as “challenging”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today pitched for an “uncompromising mission-mode approach” to stop further pollution of the river which would require the participation of people as well.Calling for an “uncompromising” and “mission-mode approach” to prevent further pollution of Ganga river, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday stressed that cleaning of the holy river was not just a social and religious imperative but also had a strong economic logic.Chairing the fifth meeting of the National Ganga River Basin Authority in New Delhi here, he said the task of cleaning the Ganga had the potential to generate immense economical activity and bring about a positive attitudinal change in the entire country.

It was the second meeting of the NGRBA after this government came to power and the first in which Modi participated. The themes mentioned by them included silt management, and single-window clearances for proposals from the states, the statement said.The recommendations and suggestions of the various committees, including the report of the IIT Consortium, were also presented before the meeting.
