An Islamabad court on Thursday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Pakistan’s former president Pervez Musharraf over the murder of former Lal Masjid cleric Ghazi Abdul Rasheed.
Additional District and Sessions judge Wajid Ali Khan heard Abdul Rasheed Ghazi murder case and directed the police to present Musharraf on the next date of hearing. He also ordered to seize the surety bonds of his guarantors.
Musharraf is living with his daughter in Karachi where he underwent a medical check-up yesterday. After hearing the arguments, the court rejected the plea and issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former president. The court adjourned the hearing until April 27.
The case was registered against Musharraf for the murder of the cleric and his mother during the Red Mosque operation in 2007. Ghazi was killed when army commandos stormed the mosque in the capital on Musharraf’s orders. They are also faces murder accusations over the 2006 death of Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti and the 2007 assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. IANS
