Tron 3

images (1)Back in March, reports surfaced that TRON 3, the sequel to 2010’s anticipated TRON: Legacy, was gearing up to start shooting this fall in Vancouver. Shortly thereafter it was confirmed that star Garrett Hedlund and director Joseph Kosinski were going to be back for the sequel, which has been rumored to be titled TRON: Ascension. Now word comes from THR that Olivia Wilde will be reprising her role as Quorra, an algorithm turned sentient human who left the grid with Sam (Hedlund), son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), at the conclusions of Legacy. However, we still don’t know what the sequel will focus on this time. Read on! Disney has confirmed that a sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy is officially in the works.Rumors popped up in early March that the studio was aiming for a fall 2015 shoot in Vancouver. Now, it’s been officially revealed that stars Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund will once again team up with director Joseph Kosinski for the film. Game on.

Legacy grossed $400 million worldwide in 2010, and the various parties involved have been trying to boot up a sequel ever since. As previously rumored, Tron 3 is expected to finally begin shooting this fall.Decades later, Disney revisited the world with Legacy. The story revealed that the computer-programmer character played by Bridges had a son (Hedlund) who jumped into the Grid to find his father. Hedlund just boarded Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk and will be playing Hook in Pan, Warner Bros.’ retelling of Peter Pan. He is repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment and Sloane Offer.

Also unknown is whether or not Jeff Bridges or the title program himself, played by Bruce Boxleitner, will be back for this sequel. However, perhaps the most important element of this film’s cool factor, beyond the breathtaking visuals, would be the return of Daft Punk to score the film. The soundtrack was easily the most memorable part of TRON: Legacy, and it would be great if the electronic duo returned to score the sequel again. Anyway, we’ve got some time before production begins in the fall, so details will slowly start to trickle out of the studio in the coming months. Stay tuned for more.
